Work experience
Communications Intern — Manitoba Habitat Conservancy
April - May 2025

A bit about MHC:
MHC has been working to conserve prairie habitats, with a focus on waterfowl habitats, for the past 40 years. They currently have a brand new communications team of one, and are fairly unknown. They brought in an intern (me) to help with the communications workload and to come up with new ideas for how to become better known in the community and bring in more donations.

Some things I did:
-
Created social posts, including copy and visuals (Mother's Day, species at risk feature)
-
Came up with an extensive urban awareness/donor campaign
-
Helped put together materials for donor reports (formatting documents, writing articles)
-
Attended meetings and brainstorm sessions

Some things I did:
-
Wrote website/campaign copy for based on company voice and tone (view an example of this), and used pre-existing copy to create content for different platforms (e.g. took a commercial script and created OOH media and radio scripts based off of it).
-
Collaborated with other departments to complete projects.
-
Participated in office culture, team building, and learning sessions.
-
Curated social media copy for future posts (check out these posts I helped create for DrinkSense: Cross Court Cooler, Hanky Panky).
DrinkSense Brand Ambassador — UpHouse

My role:
-
Supplied people in public spaces with Zero-proof beverages from DrinkSense to help spread brand awareness and encourage people to consider alcohol free drink options.
Wax Wizard (Production Assistant) — Coal & Canary

So, this wasn't a communications job per se, but this was the job that got me interested in the world of marketing, and I learned a lot about the communications side of running a business.

Some things I did:

-
Attended work events such as product launches and team building functions.
