Screenplay — The Building Blocks of Life
I wrote this screenplay in my second semester of CreComm where I used log lines, summaries, and story arch strategies to create this script short screenplay script. I wanted to create a simple story revolving around a simple item everyone is familiar with to create that relatability — LEGO. It may sound silly to write a story about LEGO, but I added emotional, storytelling audience to create a story that had a deeper meaning than just building blocks. The LEGO acted as a metaphor in this story about a father and daughter throughout the daughter's life. When the screenplay was complete, I cast classmates to read the different roles for my peers. The story brought people to tears. The reading out loud was meant to be an opportunity for classmates to give feedback on the piece to improve the final version, but I received very minimal feedback. This story was read over a year ago, but I still have peers bring up my story, meaning it stuck with them after a long period of time and hearing many screenplays from our fellow peers.
